The Tom Steyer-funded Need to Impeach group announced Thursday it is running a television ad demanding Sen. Lindsey Graham support making the findings of the Mueller probe public.
The ad pressures Mr. Graham, who is seeking re-election in 2020, to join the chorus of lawmakers calling for the final report from special counsel Robert Mueller’s probe to be released when it is ready.
“Lindsey Graham is scared of Donald Trump and won’t stand up for South Carolina,” the narrator says in the ad. “After the House voted unanimously to demand the Mueller report be made public, Lindsey Graham killed the bill in the Senate.”
After the House passed a resolution calling for the release of the report on a 420-0 vote, Mr. Graham said he would support that effort. But he also wanted Congress to create a special counsel to probe the FBI and Justice Department’s handling of the investigation into Hillary Clinton secret email server and the launch of the Russia investigation that resulted in the Mueller-led probe.
“I believe we owe it to the American people to look at all potential misconduct related to the 2016 campaign investigation, not just some,” he said. “Mr. Mueller has been allowed to do his job. It is past time for someone to look at the other side of the political coin.”
Need to Impeach, in the television ad, argues the American public has the “right to see Mueller’s final report.”
“We need to remind Senator Graham that he works for us, not Trump,” the narrator says. “Lindsey Graham needs to grow a backbone. Tell him to make the Mueller report public.”
