Rep. Tim Ryan said Thursday the 2020 Democratic candidates need to get “back on track” with the real issues.

His colleagues’ progressive push to the left has “alienated us from working-class people,” Mr. Ryan said on “The Hugh Hewitt Show.”

“We talk about a lot of issues that aren’t necessarily in the forefront of the minds of working-class people,” the Ohio Democrat told the conservative radio host, referencing calls to abolish the Electoral College.

“It’s their pensions. It’s their health care. It’s the fact their wages aren’t going up. That’s what you got to talk about because that’s what’s on their minds,” he added.

Mr. Ryan said a candidate that focuses on “jobs and the economy” will win the 2020 election.

The congressman added he will make up his mind about joining the 2020 field in the “next couple weeks.”

“You’ve got to make sure you got a good game plan before you go on the field, and you got to make sure you can win,” he said. “I want to make sure I have an opportunity to actually win the thing.”

Mr. Ryan also discussed competing with China in the electric car market and addressing child poverty in education.
