Rep. Elijah Cummings accused the White House Wednesday of participating in “an unprecedented level of stonewalling, delay and obstruction.”
The Maryland Democrat and chairman of the House Oversight and Reform Committee said President Trump’s administration has ignored multiple committee requests for documents.
“I have sent 12 letters to the White House on a half-dozen topics — some routine and some relating to our core national security interests. In response, the White House has refused to hand over any documents or produce any witnesses for interviews,” Mr. Cummings wrote in a Washington Post piece.
The committee is investigating multiple controversies within the White House, including probes into whether protocol was followed in giving Mr. Trump’s son-in-law and senior adviser Jared Kushner a security clearance. Mr. Cummings said that investigation was a top priority.
“Let me underscore that point: The White House has not turned over a single piece of paper to our committee or made a single official available for testimony during the 116th Congress,” the representative said.
