BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. (AP) - A federal appeals court has upheld a ruling that a West Virginia consulting firm must pay more than $1.6 million in back wages and damages to 70 employees.
The U.S. Labor Department says in a news release the Fourth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals affirmed a lower court’s ruling in West Virginia that found Fire and Safety Investigation Consulting Services of Bridgeport and its owner violated the Fair Labor Standards Act.
The statement says the company failed to pay overtime to employees who worked more than 40 hours in a week. Instead, employees were paid a fixed amount every two weeks.
According to its website, the company has served the insurance, oil and gas, manufacturing, construction and legal industries for more than a decade.
