MANKATO, Minn. (AP) - Friends of an elderly Mankato-area woman who was killed after she was assaulted in her home say they can’t comprehend who would wish her harm.

The Mankato Free Press reports that 76-year-old Evelyn Adams died earlier this week within days after he was attacked at her South Bend Township home.

Authorities say the intruder wore items to conceal his identity. A witness told police they saw an SUV leaving the area about the time of the assault.

Nita Onnen, who called Adams her best friend, said Adams was the “kindest person in the world and she’d do anything for anybody.”

Adams led the Mankato-area Modern Woodmen Youth Service Club for 30 years. Modern Woodmen member Arlon Becker says she was beloved by members.

The investigation into her death is ongoing.
