MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - An Alabama woman has been sentenced to 46 months in federal prison for embezzling $700,000 from her employer and filing false tax returns.

U.S. Attorney Louis Franklin Sr. of the Middle District of Alabama says 49-year-old Alita Edeker was sentenced Friday. Prosecutors say Edeker, of Chambers County, diverted payments from her company’s clients to debit and credit cards that she controlled. She made false entries in the company’s books and records to conceal the embezzlement.

Al.com reports after Edeker embezzled the funds she did not report the money on her tax returns in 2011, 2012 and 2013. Besides her 46-month federal prison term, Edeker was also sentenced to three years of supervised released and ordered to pay $819,497 in restitution to her employer and $101,604 to the IRS.
