OMAHA, Neb. (AP) - A coalition focused on improving health conditions in the Omaha area has received a $50,000 gift to help identify homes that have tested positive for lead paint or asthma triggers in Douglas County.

The donation comes from health care provider WellCare of Nebraska. The money will support the Live Well Omaha coalition’s use of an inspection questionnaire meant to identify unhealthy triggers within a home and refer the occupants to resources for help. The service will be used by residents living in public and voucher properties.

Residents whose homes are determined to have unsafe levels of lead paint or allergens will be directed by Live Well Omaha to an appropriate entity for intervention. The coalition’s goal is to have 100 percent of the target population properties inspected by 2025.
