CONYERS, Ga. (AP) - A Rockdale County elementary school will close for two days after about 100 students and more than a dozen employees were absent with a gastrointestinal bug.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports Pine Street Elementary will be closed Wednesday and Thursday.
Rockdale schools spokeswoman Cindy Ball says the county health officials believe norovirus is the cause. Health experts say norovirus causes inflammation of the stomach or intestines and can cause vomiting and diarrhea. Most get better within one to three days.
Ball says about 100 students and eight staff members were out Friday. Monday and Tuesday saw similar student numbers, with 18 employees out Monday and 16 on Tuesday.
The school plans to reopen Friday. Sick children should stay home until they’re free from vomiting or diarrhea for 24 hours without medication.
