LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - An Oklahoma man has been sentenced to 15 to 25 years in prison for paying his niece $200 and meth to cut off his wife’s hair and scar her face in a 2016 stabbing in Nebraska.
Eddy Stabler of Lawton, Oklahoma, was sentenced Wednesday for the attack on Jacinda Stabler, the Lincoln Journal Star reported.
Deputy Lancaster County Public Defender Shawn Elliott had sought probation, arguing that Eddy Stabler’s niece, Athea Stabler, was more responsible because she carried out the attack. Elliott also noted that a letter from the victim indicated she wanted her husband to get probation.
Deputy Lancaster County Attorney Chris Reid alleged that Eddy Stabler was culpable because he planned the attack a month before. He also noted that Eddy Stabler has a history of domestic assaults.
Jacinda Stabler awoke in the early hours of May 29, 2016, to find someone attacking her, according to court records. She said she spent two nights in the hospital and required more than 30 staples to fix the stab wounds on her head, back and right hand.
Jacinda Stabler told police that she was in the process of divorcing her husband, but didn’t believe he was the attacker. The divorce was never finalized.
Eddy Stabler said he wasn’t involved in the attack, but still apologized to his wife.
“If I was home, this probably never would have happened,” he said.
Athea Stabler pleaded guilty to assault. She’ll be sentenced in April and faces up to 20 years in prison.
Eddy Stabler will have to serve about 6 1/2 years in prison before he is eligible for parole.

This story has been corrected to show that Athea Stabler is Eddy Stabler’s niece, not his sister.
