House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Thursday that she will send the Green New Deal, liberal activists high-priority plan to overhaul the U.S. economy, through the committee process.
She didn’t give specifics, but said multiple committees have jurisdiction over the sprawling plan, which calls for a zero-greenhouse gas emissions economy, retrofitting the country’s infrastructure and guaranteeing jobs for all Americans, with an increased mandatory wage.
Mrs. Pelosi, who in the past has sounded dismissive of the plan, struggling to even remember its name and at one point last month referring to it as the “green dream.”
On Thursday she saluted the broad outline, championed by firebrand freshman Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, for raising awareness to climate change.
