HARPERS FERRY, W.Va. (AP) - Vice President Mike Pence has toured a West Virginia facility that trains border agents while seeking U.S. Senate support for President Donald Trump’s security wall.
Pence was joined by Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen at the U.S. Customs and Border Protection facility Wednesday in Harpers Ferry, West Virginia.
The Herald-Mail of Hagerstown, Maryland, reports Pence told his audience Wednesday, “all of you are helping our agents on the front line do their jobs and come home safe.”
The Democratic-led House last month approved a resolution to block Trump’s declaration of a national emergency at the U.S-Mexico border. A vote by the Republican-led Senate is set for Thursday. Senate passage would send the resolution to the White House, where it would face a certain veto.
Pence says “a vote against the president’s declaration is a vote against border security.”
