An El Paso TV station reported Wednesday evening that former Rep. Beto O’Rourke will run for president.
TV station KTSM, the NBC affiliate for Mr. O’Rourke’s hometown, reported that Mr. O’Rourke himself “confirmed via text to KTSM Wednesday afternoon that he is seeking the Democratic nomination.”
The announcement will come Thursday morning, KTSM reported.
Mr. O’Rourke has openly speculated about seeking the 2020 Democratic nomination, and been speculated about, since he lost his 2018 U.S. Senate bid to Republican Sen. Ted Cruz, though by much less than Democrats usually do in ruby-red Texas.
On Wednesday, Vanity Fair let loose a cover story in which Mr. O’Rourke says he’d like to run and thinks he’d do well.
