BOSTON (AP) - The Wentworth Institute of Technology has named its new president - the first in its history to come outside the field of engineering.

The engineering university named Quinnipiac University administrator Mark Thompson as its new president Monday. The Boston Globe reports Thompson will begin on June 1, taking over from Zorica Pantic, who is stepping down after 14 years.

Thompson is currently an executive vice president and provost at Quinnipiac in Connecticut, where he has worked for the past 20 years in numerous different roles. He says he plans to grow Wentworth’s graduate programs and expand its partnerships with area businesses.

Wentworth, which began as a vocational school, has grown in recent years - beginning to offer master’s degrees in 2017.
