Stacey Abrams, a former Georgia gubernatorial candidate, said Monday that “2020 is definitely on the table” after she said 2028 would be the earliest she would run for president.

In an interview at the SXSW festival in Austin, Texas, Ms. Abrams discussed a spreadsheet that documents her goals, which is detailed in her book.

“In the spreadsheet with all the jobs I wanted to do, 2028 would be the earliest I would be ready to stand for president because I would have done the work I thought necessary to be effective in that job,” said Ms. Abrams, a Democrat.

However, Ms. Abrams took to Twitter to clarify that she has not ruled out a run for president in 2020.

“In #LeadFromTheOutside, I explore how to be intentional about plans, but flexible enough to adapt. 20 years ago, I never thought I’d be ready to run for POTUS before 2028. But life comes at you fast,” she tweeted. “2020 is definitely on the table…”

Lauren Groh-Wargo, Ms. Abrams’ former campaign manager, also tweeted about the interview, saying that her remarks “were in reference to her years-old spreadsheet, not her current considerations. She is taking a look at all options on the table in 2020 and beyond.”

Ms. Abrams gained notoriety for her 2018 Georgia election to be the country’s first black female governor. While she was declared the loser, she has yet to fully concede the election, instead filing a federal lawsuit against the state’s voting laws, saying that her opponent, Gov. Brian Kemp, engaged in “deliberate and intentional” voter suppression.

Despite being out of politics for now, she delivered the Democratic rebuttal to President Trump’s State of the Union address this year.
