PHOENIX (AP) - Officials at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport say operations are returning to normal after police checked out a suspicious item at Terminal 4.
Police say a piece of luggage passing through one of the checkpoints at the airport’s busiest terminal around 3 p.m. Tuesday was deemed suspicious.
Three levels on the east side of Terminal 4 were evacuated, three checkpoints were closed for precautionary reasons and the police department’s bomb squad was called to the scene.
Detectives examined the item and determined it was safe.
The checkpoints and three terminal levels were reopened around 4:30 p.m.
Airport officials say all roadways around Terminal 4 have been reopened and the PHX Sky Train has resumed operations.
