The Washington Redskins struck out on Antonio Brown, but they could be interested in another former Pittsburgh Steeler.
NBC Sports’ Peter King reported “smart football people” think the Redskins might pursue running back Le’Veon Bell, who missed the entire 2018 season after holding out.
King noted the New York Jets are the favorite to land Bell, but added Washington and Miami are possible destinations too.
The Redskins landing Bell would be a surprise. The Redskins have second-rounder Derrius Guice waiting in the wings and they don’t have a ton of money to work with when free agency begins Wednesday. Washington has expressed interest in bringing back veteran Adrian Peterson, who rushed for 1,042 yards last season.
While Bell skipped all of last year, he still figures to be in his prime at age 27. With the Steelers, he was one of the best running backs in football — racking up 1,946 yards from the line of scrimmage (1,291 rushing, 655 receiving) for 11 touchdowns in 2017.
NFL.com ranks Bell as the best free agent in this year’s class.
The Redskins and other teams can begin negotiating with Bell at noon Monday.
