The Washington Redskins have said they would like to re-sign Adrian Peterson. Likewise, Peterson has said he would like to stay in Washington.
But a deal hasn’t happened as the NFL’s negotiating window is set to open Monday at noon — paving the way for another team to possibly land Peterson.
That team, the NFL Network reported, could be the Chicago Bears.

Peterson is coming off his best season in years. After signing a one-year, $1 million deal in August, Peterson captured the starting job and went on to rush for 1,042 yards. He also emerged as a team leader following Alex Smith’s injury in November.
The Redskins and Peterson have had discussions about a new deal, though they haven’t been able to come to an agreement. Peterson will turn 34 later this month and if he re-signs with Washington, he’ll likely have a different role in 2019 with Derrius Guice set to return from a torn ACL.
“Yeah, I would definitely love to come back here and finish off on a better note,” Peterson said in December. “I feel like we have a great group of guys here, all the adversity we faced here and how guys continued to come to work and really stay focused. It shows a lot about this team, this locker room, the coaches surrounding us as well, so that’s something I would love to be a part of.”
If Peterson joins the Bears, he would complement Tarik Cohen, who is more of a receiving back.
With the NFL’s negotiation window opening Monday, teams will be allowed to talk to unrestricted free agents around the league.
