ENFIELD, Conn. (AP) - Connecticut officials are ramping up the search for an inmate who escaped a prison program at a local college.

The state Department of Corrections says the U.S. Marshals Service has joined efforts to locate 45-year-old Christopher Somsky, of Westport. The federal agency is offering an undisclosed monetary reward for information leading to his capture.

Somsky walked off Asnuntuck Community College in Enfield Saturday afternoon.

He’s an inmate at the Willard-Cybulski Correctional Institution and had been participating in an approved day program at the college.

Prison officials consider Somsky a low-risk offender. He’s serving a maximum nine-year sentence for second degree robbery handed down in 2015.

A corrections department spokeswoman says community-based prison furlough programs across the state have been suspended, pending a review. The Enfield prison is also on lockdown.
