MEDFORD, Mass. (AP) - Former U.S. Sen Jeff Flake, one of President Donald Trump’s harshest critics from within the GOP, is coming to Massachusetts to talk about the current state of politics.
The Arizona Republican is scheduled to speak Tuesday at the Jonathan M. Tisch College of Civic Life at Tufts University.
The university says Flake will discuss the Senate, presidential politics and the current state of the Republican Party. Deborah Schildkraut, professor of political science in Tufts, will moderate.
In Congress, Flake earned a reputation as a proponent of putting partisanship aside and voting “country over party.” He announced he would not seek re-election during a Senate speech in 2017, lamenting the “disrepair and destructiveness of our politics.”
This free event is open to members of the Tufts community but will be livestreamed.
