LITHONIA, Ga. (AP) - Police say maintenance workers found a burned body near a dumpster at a Georgia park.
Police tell the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that the body of a 58-year-old man was found Thursday morning near a dumpster at the Southeast Athletic Complex near Lithonia. The man’s name isn’t being released until his family is notified.
DeKalb County police Sgt. Jacques Spencer tells news outlets that the workers discovered the body near the dumpster in a parking lot area when they arrived at work and called police.
The workers told law enforcement that the gates to the park were closed and tied with a chain when they arrived that morning. They say the gates are not typically shut.
Homicide detectives are handling the investigation and are trying to determine the manner of death.
