“Veep” star Julia Louis-Dreyfus says that she has something in common with President Trump: they both play “pretend, fake” political leaders.
The actress, speaking to Time this week about the upcoming season of her HBO show, said she does not see the 45th commander in chief as the real deal.
“He’d be funny if he didn’t have the power he has,” Ms. Louis-Dreyfus, who plays President Selina Meyer in the political satire comedy, said for an interview published Thursday. “He’s sort of a pretend, fake president. He’s a complete moron, start to finish.”
The 58-year-old also commented on political correctness by saying she was “suspicious” of those who questioned it.
“I’m in favor of political correctness,” she said. “I’m suspicious of those who have a problem with it. I think it is language for something else — for ’It’s OK to make racist jokes,’ or ’It’s OK to make violence-against-women jokes.’”
The remark could be seen as a jab at her fellow “Seinfeld” colleague Jerry Seinfeld.
Mr. Seinfeld blasted “PC nonsense” as “anti-comedy” during a 2015 interview with ESPN radio.
He also mocked college kids who frame all jokes they don’t like as racist and sexist.
“They just want to use these words: ’That’s racist;’ ’That’s sexist;’ ’That’s prejudice,’” the comedian said. “They don’t even know what the f—- they’re talking about.”
The seventh and final season of “Veep” debuts March 31.
