Gov. Jay Inslee of Washington on Friday entered the 2020 Democratic presidential race and made it clear that tackling climate change will be a central part of his campaign message.
“We are the first generation to feel the sting of climate change, and we’re the last that can do something about it,” Mr. Inslee said in his announcement video.
Mr. Inslee is the first governor in the Democratic race.
The 68-year-old likened the push to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to the nation’s push to go to the moon.
“Our country’s next mission must be to rise up to the most urgent challenge of our time: defeating climate change,” he said.
