PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Rhode Island Gov. Gina Raimondo has nominated a new chair to lead the state’s Public Utility Commission.
The Providence Journal reports that energy attorney Laura S. Olton will replace Margaret “Meg” Curran as chair of the three-member commission.
Olton is the former general counsel of the Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities and National Grid in Rhode Island. She currently runs LSO Energy Advisors in Wellesley, Massachusetts.
Raimondo said in a statement that Olton is well-positioned to tackle the state’s energy issues.
Gov. Lincoln Chafee appointed Curran in 2013. Her six-year-term ended in February. Curran will continue to chair the state’s Energy Facility Siting Board until deliberations have concluded for the proposed the $1-billion power plant in Burrillville.
Raimondo will submit Olton’s name to the state Senate for advice and consent.
