The Boston Red Sox drafted Navy right-handed pitcher Noah Song in the fourth round (137th overall) of the 2019 MLB First-Year Player Draft on Tuesday.

Song graduated from the Naval Academy in May and, per the current rules for service academy grads, must serve a minimum of two years of his military commitment before pursuing professional baseball.

Song led NCAA Division I with 161 strikeouts in 2019, while maintaining an ERA of 1.44, which was sixth-best in the country. He is a finalist for the Golden Spikes Award and National Pitcher of the Year.

“I am super excited about being drafted and my head is still whirling,” Song said, according to a Naval Academy press release. “I really like the organization and the Red Sox area scout has been great throughout the process. Boston is a place that is steeped in the tradition of winning and I am really excited to have been selected by the Red Sox.”

Song told The Washington Times last month that he will serve as a Naval flight officer in the military.
