LAS VEGAS (AP) - The union representing teachers in Las Vegas is keeping pressure on lawmakers to approve pay raises for educators after the state Legislature approved a two-year, $28 billion state budget granting raises to state workers and teachers.
Just hours after the session ended, the Clark County Education Association pointed Tuesday to a strike authorization vote last month.
It says a walkout is still possible if classroom funding is cut and the Clark County School District fails to approve salary hikes.
Teacher strikes are illegal under Nevada law, and the union could be fined $50,000-a-day during a walkout.
A statement from the union notes the school district didn’t get all the funding it requested from the Legislature and is expected to have to modify its budget for the next academic year.
