SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Sundance Film Festival Director John Cooper will be stepping down from the position after the 2020 festival.

The Deseret News reports the Sundance Institute announced Thursday Cooper will instead fill a new role of Emeritus Director where he will oversee special projects including the institute’s 40th anniversary in 2021.

Cooper has served as the festival’s director since 2010. He helped launch the festival’s Short Film and New Frontier sections as well as expanded Sundance’s festival programming in London and Hong Kong.

The Sundance Institute has not announced his replacement.
