ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - Money from a state settlement with General Motors for releases of contaminants is being used to improve recreational access to the Hudson River in two Westchester County villages.
The Department of Environmental Conservation says a project at the Philipsburg Manor historic site will facilitate kayaking and picnicking. The project also will eradicate invasive species on the shoreline and plant native vegetation.
The village of Sleepy Hollow will improve the riverside trail on the former GM site along the Pocantico River, a Hudson tributary.
The village of Tarrytown will stabilize the shoreline and improve access to a canoe and kayak launch in a riverside park.
