SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) - A Washington state man has been convicted of the beating death of a 10-month-old boy.

The Spokesman-Review reported Wednesday that 31-year-old Joshua J. Mobley was convicted Wednesday by a jury following a two-week trial in Spokane.

Authorities say Mobley was babysitting in February 2017 when the infant suffered more than a dozen blows to the head and trauma to the abdomen that caused internal bleeding.

Police say the infant was discovered dead by his mother after spending hours in Mobley’s care.

Mobley’s defense attorney says the child’s mother may have caused the injuries.

Mobley was previously free on $250,000 bond, but was ordered to be detained in the Spokane County Jail following the verdict.

Mobley faces up to life in prison at a sentencing hearing scheduled for Aug. 9.
