HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) - A former Democratic state representative who won a new trial two years ago is pleading “no contest” to a misdemeanor election law violation.
The York Daily Record/Sunday News said 69-year-old Stephen Stetler entered the plea Tuesday in Dauphin County Court.
His lawyer says Stetler made that decision based on his age, the passage of time, restitution he’s paid and the 16 months he spent behind bars.
Stetler represented York and led Democratic House campaign efforts. He also served as revenue secretary under then-Gov. Ed Rendell.
His plea was to a misdemeanor count of failure to report by a political committee. He was not given more jail time.
Stetler had been found guilty of public corruption charges in 2012 and sentenced to up to 5 years. That conviction was overturned on the basis of ineffective defense counsel.
