LAS VEGAS (AP) - Nevada’s largest labor union has expressed concerns over the potential impact on its members of a multi-billion-dollar acquisition.

The Reno Gazette-Journal reported Tuesday that the purchase of Caesars Entertainment by Eldorado Resorts affects more than 22,000 employees who are members of Culinary Local 226.

The president of UNITE HERE, parent organization of the culinary union, says it “will not stand by idly” if the deal leads to significant job losses and decreased wages and benefits for members.

Reno-based Eldorado announced Monday it is buying Caesars in a cash-and-stock deal valued at $17.3 billion, which will create the largest gambling operator in the United States.

Eldorado officials project more than $500 million in savings within the first year.

Company officials could not be reached by the newspaper for comment Tuesday.
