TRENTON, N.J. (AP) - New Jersey’s Supreme Court has ruled that the co-worker of a man who had sex with an underage girl wasn’t obligated to report it because there was no reason to believe that he knew about the relationship.
Both men worked as emergency medical technicians. One of them was 44 years old and acknowledged having sex with the girl when she was 15. The co-worker didn’t see them together and wasn’t told her age, but was briefly shown naked pictures of the girl.
A judge dismissed a lawsuit filed by the girl against the co-worker and the company but an appeals court said more evidence was needed.
The high court didn’t rule Wednesday whether a co-worker or employer knowing of such a relationship would be obligated to report it.
