DAYTON, Ohio (AP) - Officials with an annual air show in Ohio say an estimated 49,000 people attended the weekend event, down from closer to 62,000 last year.
A Vectren Dayton Air Show statement on Monday attributed the decreased attendance at the show held Saturday and Sunday to having to shift parking farther away.
The statement said the normal parking lots were unusable due to heavy rains in recent weeks, and shuttles were required. Show officials said people tend to avoid shows with shuttling because it can take longer to enter and exit.
Scott Buchanan, chairman of the United States Air and Trade Show Board of Trustees, said officials were pleased with the show’s quality and its lineup, which featured the U.S. Airforce Thunderbirds.
Next year’s show will be June 27 and June 28.
