BROOKHAVEN, Miss. (AP) - U.S. marshals have arrested a man wanted for a shooting that killed a 7-year-old boy in Brookhaven, Mississippi.
The Daily Leader reports 24-year-old John Weathersby was captured Friday in Wesson.
Brookhaven Chief Kenneth Collins says Weathersby was taken to the Copiah County jail and was expected to be charged with murder in the killing of Quantivious Allen Jr., who recently finished first grade.
It was not immediately clear Saturday whether Weathersby is represented by an attorney.
Collins said Quantivious was inside his father’s home Tuesday when someone drove by and used “an assault-style weapon” to shoot into the house, striking the boy. Quantivious died hours later in a hospital.
Community members released blue and white balloons Friday to remember the boy nicknamed “Yang Yang.” His funeral was Saturday in Brookhaven.
