The Tampa Bay Rays have been given permission from MLB to explore plans for the franchise to become a two-city team, splitting home games between Tampa, Florida, and Montreal.
According to ESPN, the current plan would have the Rays start the year in Tampa and move to Montreal for the end of the season. The plans include new stadiums in both cities.
Montreal lost the Expos to Washington after the 2004 season. The Canadian city has been baseball-free for 15 years. And the Rays come in second to last in MLB attendance.
There are still barriers that could prevent the two-city plan from coming to fruition, ESPN reports.
