Sean Hannity on Tuesday promised to let Rep. Matt Gaetz, Florida Republican, host a future episode of his prime-time Fox News program.
“I will tell you this: I’m going to let Matt Gaetz fill in on this show one night,” he said during a live broadcast of “Hannity.”
“I’m going to make that promise tonight, because I watch you on, you spend all this time on fake news CNN and nobody watches you and I’m like, ’you’re wasting your time,’” Mr. Hannity told the congressman. “Why would you waste your energy? So I’m going to give you an hour. We have the best audience in TV.”
Mr. Hannity made the offer during a segment featuring Mr. Gaetz and Fox News contributor Lisa Boothe televised following President Trump’s reelection campaign rally in Orlando.
Ms. Boothe interjected by offering to fill in for Mr. Hannity, prompting him to suggest she share co-hosting duties with Mr. Gaetz.
“I would totally do it,” Mr. Gaetz said.
“Done deal. I’ll make it happen. I hope,” Mr. Hannity replied. “I love making these decisions without management approval. I’m sure they’re loving every moment of this.”
The congressman’s office referred to his on-air response when reached for comment Wednesday. Fox News did not immediately answer a similar inquiry.
Mr. Hannity and Mr. Gaetz are among Mr. Trump’s most unabashed defenders, earning each of them frequent praise from the president.
Mr. Trump mentioned Mr. Gaetz during his Orlando rally Tuesday evening, and Mr. Hannity is slated to air an interview with the president on Wednesday’s episode of his Fox News program.
