Madonna has a new goal: a sit-down interview with Pope Francis to convince him that he has it all wrong on abortion.
The woman behind “Papa Don’t Preach” told an Australian journalist this week that she wants to evangelize the pope on the idea of a pro-choice Jesus.
“Let’s talk about Jesus’ point of view about women,” she said during “Andrew Denton’s Interview” on Tuesday. “Let’s talk about it. What do you really think he thought of women? And don’t you think Jesus would agree that a woman has the right to choose what to do with her body?”
Madonna made the comments while promoting her latest album, “Madame X,” which came out June 14.
“One day he might invite me. I think this one might,” she added, the Daily Mail reported. “I think he would be open to having that conversation with me.”
Convincing the pope is going to be an uphill battle for the 60-year-old artist. The pontiff likens abortion to hiring an assassin.
“Is it licit to throw away a life to resolve a problem?” he asked attendees at a Vatican-sponsored conference in May. “Is it licit to hire a hitman to resolve a problem?”
Madonna is also preparing to launch her “Take A Bow” world tour Sept. 12 in Brooklyn.
