AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) - The Maine Legislature has passed several bills aiming to boost protections for workers.
The state Senate sent the bills Monday to Democratic Gov. Janet Mills, who has a 10-day window to veto, sign or let the legislation pass into law without her signature.
The package includes Democratic Senate President Troy Jackson’s bill to allow workers to pursue injunctions or cease operation orders against companies that don’t pay them as required.
Another bill would ensure state employees receive merit increases in the period between an expired collective bargaining contract and the next agreement. Mills’ two-year budget proposal includes funding for such increases.
Other bills would address wages at public works projects, while another bill would exclude collectively bargaining salary increases from state employee pension calculations.
