TACOMA, Wash. (AP) - A Washington state man who was extradited from Cambodia after he fled the U.S. while awaiting trial on child rape charges has been sentenced to more than eight years in prison.

The News Tribune reports 63-year-old Gilbert Greenwood was sentenced Wednesday on charges of child molestation and child assault.

Court documents say Greenwood started abusing a 4-year-old girl in Pierce County in 2002. The abuse continued for a decade.

He was arrested and released in 2013. He failed to appear for trial in October 2014.

U.S. Marshals arrested Greenwood in Siem Reap, Cambodia in May 2018, and he was extradited to Tacoma.
