OXFORD, Miss. (AP) - An attorney for the family of a woman whose death has been blamed on a police officer is demanding $5 million from the city of Oxford, Mississippi.

Matthew Kinne is charged with murdering Dominique Clayton in May and has been fired by the Oxford police.

Relatives said they were romantically involved and the officer frequently visited her home while on duty.

Attorney Carlos Moore says Clayton shared her fears with her family before she was shot, saying Kinne might harm her because she told him she might be pregnant.

Moore’s letter also says Oxford police caused undue stress to the family by initially saying Clayton committed suicide, even though no gun was found at the scene.

News outlets report Oxford mayor Robin Tannehill received the letter and had no comment.
