NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. (AP) - Authorities say a Florida man who shot and wounded a deputy has died from a gunshot wound.
The Tampa Bay Times reports that 62-year-old Terrance Peterson died at a hospital Wednesday.
The Pasco County Sheriff’s Office says Peterson was wounded early Saturday morning after deputies responded to a domestic disturbance at his New Port Richey home. Officials say Peterson had shot his wife’s Amazon Alexa device and slapped her.
When deputies arrived at the home, authorities say Peterson fired at them with an AK-47 semiautomatic rifle and handgun. K-9 Deputy Chris Stone was shot in the leg and remains hospitalized.
Investigators say Peterson was found with a gunshot wound to the head. It wasn’t known whether Peterson shot himself or was hit by a deputy returning fire.
