The Oakland Raiders — not the Washington Redskins — will be featured on HBO’s “Hard Knocks” later this summer.
The NFL announced Tuesday that the Raiders will be the focus of the network’s five-episode documentary series. Raiders coach Jon Gruden hinted the Raiders would be featured earlier in the afternoon.
The Redskins were one of five teams under consideration for the spot, as they had not made the playoffs nor have a first-year head coach — both disqualifiers for the program.
Washington was against being featured on the show, however, with coach Jay Gruden calling it a potential distraction.
Two weeks ago, Jay Gruden made the case that his brother’s team would be the better subject.
“If they were smart, they would go to Oakland,” Jay Gruden said. “What an entertainment value that would be: Antonio Brown, Jon Gruden, Paul Guenther, Vontaze Burfict, [Richie] Incognito. You’d be crazy not to go to Oakland. You can do us next year.”
