TORRINGTON, Conn. (AP) - A former Connecticut school bus driver has filed a lawsuit against her local school board saying it violated her free speech rights by firing her for comments she made on Facebook.

The Republican-American reports that Ashleigh Thibault claims the Torrington Board of Education violated her rights when they requested her termination last summer.

In public Facebook comments, the Torrington resident endorsed a political candidate saying the opponent’s children had bullied her kids.

The opposing candidate, Molly Spino, contacted the bus company.

Soon after, Thibault says she received a letter from the school board saying she was fired.

Spino is among those named in the suit. She said last year she reported the behavior as any parent would.

School officials declined comment.

Thibault is seeking reinstatement, back pay and unspecified damages.
