Golden State Warriors general manager Bob Myers gave an emotional and passionate defense of Kevin Durant after the star forward suffered an Achilles injury Monday in Game 5 of the NBA Finals.
The Warriors, ESPN reported, fear Durant tore his Achilles tendon.
Durant missed nine games with a calf injury and returned Monday, only to get further hurt.
“I don’t believe there’s anybody to blame,” Myers said, reportedly fighting back tears, “but I understand that this world, if you have to, you can blame me. I run our basketball operations department.
“Let me tell you something about Kevin Durant: Kevin Durant loves to play basketball. And the people who questioned whether he wanted to get back to this team were wrong. I’m not here to … he’s one of the most misunderstood people. He’s a good teammate, a good person. It’s not fair. I’m lucky to know him.”

Posting on Instagram, Durant said he was hurting “deep in the soul” following his injury.
Durant was hurt in the second quarter when his leg appeared to give out as he tried to drive around Raptors center Serge Ibaka.
