MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) - West Virginia University researchers have used photography and oral history to document a coal community in Monongalia County.

Researchers with the Eberly College of Arts and Sciences and WVU Libraries used images from the West Virginia and Regional History Center’s online database to document the Scott’s Run community.

The project is supported by a grant from the WVU Humanities Center. The researchers interviewed current and former community members as they viewed the collection of photographs.

The university said the area experienced a booming mining industry in the early 1900s. The team published its work in an exhibit at the WVU Libraries and has donated it to Scott’s Run Museum.
