ESCONDIDO, Calif. (AP) - San Diego County authorities are searching for a motorist who fled when a deputy attempted a traffic stop and eventually made a U-turn and crashed into the patrol car.
The Sheriff’s Department says the incident began late Sunday in Escondido when the deputy spotted a Nissan Pathfinder traveling down a road without its lights on.
The deputy turned on her emergency lights and the Pathfinder stopped but then took off.
The Pathfinder eventually entered southbound Interstate 15, then turned around and struck the rear passenger door area of the patrol car.
The patrol car was disabled and the deputy was treated for pain at a hospital and released.
The Pathfinder was found at the Lawrence Welk Resort and one person was taken into custody but the driver was not found.
