The Washington Mystics were battling the Las Vegas Aces at the Mandalay Bay Events Center. Former Duke teammates Zion Williamson and R.J. Barrett were squaring off at Thomas & Mack Center at UNLV.

Neither game finished.

An earthquake centered in Southern California rattled Las Vegas Friday night and caused those games and other sporting events in progress to be postponed or called early.

The Mystics led the Aces 51-36 at halftime when the earthquake was felt and the game was stopped.

“The WNBA has announced that the completion of tonight’s game in Las Vegas has been postponed for precautionary reasons due to the earthquake,” the Mystics said in a statement. “Information regarding the conclusion of tonight’s game will be released by the WNBA when it becomes available.”

But unlike the WNBA’s regular season, the results of summer league games are not of high importance and two games in progress were called early: a Magic-Spurs game and the Pelicans-Knicks matchup, the marquee game of the night as it featured the No. 1 and 3 overall draft picks.

That game was stopped early in the fourth quarter:

The earthquake registered as a 6.9 on the Richter scale after initial reports said it was a 7.1, according to the Associated Press. The primary concern at Thomas & Mack was that the arena’s overhead scoreboard, suspended only by cables, could fall to the floor.
