CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) - Wyoming returned more than $6.8 million worth of previously unclaimed property to businesses, residents and former residents during the past fiscal year, which ended Sunday.

The Wyoming Tribune Eagle reports the state received a little more than $8 million in unclaimed property during the past year. Property is turned over to the state when a business, agency or governmental entity owes what is typically money or stocks but can’t find the owner.

Wyoming Treasurer Curt Meier says the state has more than $85 million in unclaimed property awaiting owners to make a claim. State law requires that the unclaimed property be held until the owner claims it.
