BALTIMORE (AP) - A murder trial begins in Baltimore this week in the case of a 7-year-old girl who was fatally shot last year while riding in a car with a gun and drugs.
The Baltimore Sun reports opening statements were expected Tuesday in the trial of 30-year-old Keon Gray, who faces 32 counts, including murder, illegally possessing a handgun and reckless endangerment.
Baltimore police say Gray shot into the car Taylor Hayes was riding in. Malik Edison also was in the car and faces trial in October after officers said they found a loaded gun, heroin and a digital scale in the glove box.
In yet another example of the cost of Baltimore’s gun violence, Taylor’s 5-year-old sister survived being shot by stray gunfire months after her older sister died.
