BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - High water on Lake Champlain nearly put a damper on the Vermont city of Burlington’s fireworks display.

Tom Swenson of Northstar Fireworks tells the Burlington Free Press that about half to the 4,000 fireworks launched during the July 3 celebration are fired from the breakwall. The rest are launched from a barge in the water.

Swenson says the breakwall had been partially submerged in water during much of June. As of Tuesday, the water had receded enough so that the breakwall was fully exposed.

He says the breakwall fireworks are lower to the water and create “the artistic part of the show.”
