SEATTLE (AP) - A 43-year-old man suffered serious injuries after he was struck by a light-rail train at Rainier Beach Station.

The Seattle Times reports a Sound Transit extrication team used specialized tools and hydraulic jacks to remove train fenders and lift wheels to reach the man.

He’s in serious condition in the intensive care unit at Harborview Medical Center.

The southbound train entered the station around 9 p.m. Saturday.

The Seattle Fire Department says he was freed within a half hour.

Sound Transit had no immediate information about how the man was struck.

More than 75 collisions have occurred in the history of the Link light-rail line.

Most have involved vehicles. At least 21 have involved people who accidentally or deliberately stepped into the path of a train.
